Feature Service -Eng,
Hindi and Urdu
Charkha, in
the course of its efforts to become a medium of communication for
voices from the grassroots runs a trilingual feature service in
English, Hindi and Urdu. The modus operandi of this feature service
is unique. Charkha receives articles from rural reporters, writers
and development journalists in English, Hindi and Urdu and place
them in regional and national print media. Here our motto is to
enable the people of rural India to speak of their own issues, challenges,
achievements and problems. But more importantly, we encourage positive
stories of development that somehow get lost amidst the media coverage
on politics, acts of violence, terrorism and petty crime, among
others. Over the years, the Hindi and English feature service has
grown phenomenally with a subscription base of more than 100 publications
apart from several websites and portals. Inspired and encouraged
by this success, Charkha launched its Urdu feature service on October
2, 2005. This is the first Urdu feature service of its kind in India
which provides content on developmental issues to online and print
media publications in Urdu. The response of our Urdu service has
been overwhelming. We continue to get huge support and very enthusiastic
response from mainstream media and are now looking forward to extend
our reach to electronic media, internet and other new media sources
for providing platform to voices from the grassroots. We welcome
your suggestions, feedback, articles and inputs. You can contact
us at charkha@bol.net.in.
