“Role of Women Journalists in the Area of Conflict”
Afsana Rashid Bhat:
Holds an M.A. in mass Communication & Journalism, Correspondent with the Kashmir Times,
regular columnist for the Milli Gazette, New Delhi. She has contributed more than 100
articles, generally focusing on conditions & suffering of Kashmiri Women because of the
ongoing conflict in the state.
Her research proposal for the Fellowship: “ Turmoil in Kashmir – Women
face the brunt, including the half-widows’ of the countless missing persons and
those who have unwillingly become the head of their households, struggling to support
their families.
Dr.Kavita Suri
An accredited journalist having 12 years experience in journalism holds a doctorate
degree in Education. Presently she is a special correspondent with the Statesman,
based in Jammu. She is recepient of prestigious British Chevening Print Journalists,
fellowship,2005-2006 at the University of Westminster, London. She has traveled
extensively in the entire state of J& K and her writings reflect the plight
of women & children of the state suffering due to the ongoing conflict in
the region.
Her research proposal for the Fellowship: “ Women & Peace Building in
Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh
Prakriti Gupta:
Working as a Journalist for 15 years, she freelances for Delhi based Women Feature
Service , ScotsmanNews , Arab Publication “ Ashraq-Al Awasat, London. She is a
stringer from J& K for Japanese News Agency “ Kyodo News “. Much has
been written about women facing suffering due to conflict situation in the state but
her writings highlight the positive aspects of insurgency, making women capable in
professional fields and making their voices stronger.
